There's a lady somewhere in South America that spins Keeshond fur into yarn and then knits stuff (hats, sweaters, etc.) from it. Very warm. Only problem is if you get rained on you smell like a wet dog!
There's one in NH as well. She'll do it for any fur. A friend of mine was saving her Persian cat's fur for her for awhile.
I was shaving down one of my sheepies last month - I had really waited too long and she was a bit matted. I did it outside on the deck and it looked like I had sheared a sheep when I was done! Left it out there for the birds and critters to use for their nests this winter. I have a feeling they'll need it!
A woman I used to know used to take her lab outside when she brushed him. She said in the early spring the birds would hover around, waiting for her to finish so they could grab his fur.
-------------------- Handle every stressful situation like a dog. Pee on it and walk away.
