On Christmas morning, I wish...
For every dog searching trash cans for breakfast, a filled bowl with his name printed in bright letters.
For every dog who slept fitfully last night, chained in a frozen yard, a soft, warm bed with a person snoring gently nearby.
For every shelter dog, spending Christmas morning in a soiled run, a forever home, filled with sounds and smells of family.
For every "Christmas" puppy given today, a tolerant, caring owner who won't abandon you as you grow into a real dog.
For every ailing pet, enough money for your owner to pay the bills to make you well.
For every lost dog, a clear, safe road, and well marked path, to lead you home.
For every old and tired friend, a warm fire, and a soft bed, to ease your aches and pains.
And
For every Heart Dog at the Bridge, a moment when you know that you are remembered today, missed again, and loved forever.

I don't post much but I do read the forums on occassion. I want you to know that I enjoy your posts. On that note, my husband and I decided we wanted a dog. He used to have an Aussie and wanted another. On Jan 2, we will be picking up our TWO precious baby girls from New Spirit for Aussies Rescue. They are from a litter of 5 that was turned into a shelter when they were very young. Reading your posts on rescues has really made an impression on us. These two babies have you to thank in part for joining our family. Thank you and may you have a very Merry Christmas!

I'd like to add one: For every dog running loose, a caring owner that keeps him on a leash or in a fenced yard.
I almost hit a dog this morning (6:35 am) on Fall Hill Ave. near the Quarles building. I saw a rabbit run across the road and I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the dog chasing the rabbit!

About 25 years ago I hit a dog. The dog ran out in front of my car on a busy road. The dog went into the ditch. I stopped, but could not find the dog. I felt the dog was injured. I went to a couple of houses around the area, but no one knew the dog. I still remember that incident and wonder if I severely hurt the dog, or if he/she was OK. I agree Tiger_II_Jim, dogs need to be safely in a fenced in area or on a lease. Poor doggie.

Congrats! I'm so happy for you and your new pups. Thanks for the kind words. If I can convince just one family to go the rescue route rather than pet shop or backyard breeder, I'm happy.
Merry Christmas!
