My only peace of mind in losing my husband was that he was taken to Dover and that he was handled with dignity, love, respect and honor. That was completely shattered for me when I was told that he was thrown in the trash.

Maybe not so much.

How horrible for the families, "Your son/husband/daughter, etc. has been incinerated and dumped in the landfill." So much for valuing their service.

Made me sick to my stomach when I read that they had cut the arm off of a Marine so he would fit in the casket.

Story is updated.

Interesting how few names crop up as enacting these practices.

Me too.
There have been a bunch of articles in the Post on this issue.
Disgusting.

I would include the practice of using either the fake bugle or a boom box to play "Taps" at national cemetery funerals in the category of disrespecting our deceased veterans.

And we don't even have to go as far away as the King George landfill, there is a case in Fredericksburg where the dead have been grossly disrespected.
Right behind Maury is a cemetery where a bunch of Confederate soldiers are buried. Today there is a parking lot on top of them. A few decades ago they were allowed to park cars there on some temporary basis, when it was just grass and dirt. That became the camel's nose in the tent and the Fredericksburg City Council allowed the outrage to take place when they permitted it being paved.
And is anyone on city council doing anything about it?
Not that I am aware of....

Haven't they seen Poltergeist?!?!

In all seriousness, it's hypocritical to insist on preserving the "feel" of a place, due to its historical significance, and to also neglect that very history.
