Did anyone else catch the end of the CBS coverage of the Pats game?
JB who is a huge Skins fan said to Cowher: "You know I think Bill Cowher leaves knowing these guys can talk football."
Then in the pre-game Jay Glaser, who broke the Gibbs is returning to the Skins 4 years ago, says that the Skins head coaching job was offered to Jim Mora Jr but he decided to stay in Seattle where Holhgrem is thinking about retiring this year or next year because they did not extent his contract.
GW has been interviewed 4 times and has not been given the job.
Glaser went on to say that a mystery candidate will be interviewed early this week. I will bet money that Danny boy is making one last pitch to Cowher.
About 50 million over 5 years and total control sounds about right. As Fed EX turns.

For the life of me I don't know what Snyder is thinking by interviewing all of these guys to begin with. I had heard on ESPN radio that Mora withdrew his name from consideration (worded that way, not meaning "declining an offer"). I feel like Greg Williams deserves a chance and should have been offered the job the day after Gibbs announced. I wouldn't blame him if he felt alienated at this point and didn't want the job any way. He'll be a head coach somewhere.

Finally something we agree on. It think Williams deserves a shot. I am not big fan of his cover 2 defense but he has had good results in DC, Buffalo and Tenn.
It is all about where you think the Skins are as a team. If you think they have most of the right pieces to win then the smart mover is to build on the end of last year with Williams.
The other school of thought is that HOF Gibbs could not get it done with this team what makes anyone think Williams will be able to with the basically the same team. So its time to blow it up and go a different direction. Cowher built teams from the ground up in Pit.
The story that is coming out now about Mora is that there was an offer on the table. Synder's jet was left in Seattle waiting for Mora to fly back to DC for an announcement when he withdrew from the process.
Again I think Williams should be given a shot with Saunders running the O but Synder likes a big splash and Cowher would give that to him.

John: For the life of me I don't know what Snyder is thinking by interviewing all of these guys to begin with.
He has to interview others to be politically correct.
I figured Cowher would go to Baltimore, where they obviously need a kick-ass coach, but Washington might be another good setting for him.

You did mention it back then. It looks like it might actually be happening.
The rumor about Cowher buying a home in Leesburg is unconfirmed. I have seen it pop up here and there but no one has confirmed it or stated it as a fact. Public records would make that very easy to confirm so I personally do not put much stock in it.
If you have real evidence I would love to see it.

This is just posted on the Washington Post.
Cowher Madness
Great games today, eh? Had a feeling this NFC game was going OT from the half.
Anywa, rumors going nuts about Cowher and the Redskins. Went back and watched the CBS post-game clip in question and at one point Cowher clearly states how enticing the Skins job would be for any coach ... "But not for Bill Cowher."
Spoke to a person very close to Cowher tonight who says nothing has changed in his approach at all. He's not coming back to coaching in 2008 and loves what he is doing. Again, who knows. Maybe some $50 million deal at the last minute changes his mind.
The Redskins coaches still have heard nothing from the front office about the search. Also heard that Jim Mora was never offered the job, contrary to a FOX report, and that no one has been offered anything to this point, in fact. The idea that Mora walked away from a potential life-changing payday at this stage of his career, out of hand, frankly, is laughable.

As Fed Ex turns. JLC ight just be upset that his is getting scooped. If Cowher has bought a home in the area it would be easy to determine. It would have been reported by the sports media.

Good read ---- http://www.pittsburghsportsinsider.com/?p=1906
Quote:
Bottom line, here is a fact that few people understand about the NFL: Through the 80-plus year history of the league, only one man has guided two different franchises to a championship. That was Weeb Ewbank, who did it with Baltimore and the New York Jets. A few have gotten two different teams to a Super Bowl: Dick Vermeil, Bill Parcells, Dan Reeves and Mike Holmgren. But even Holmgren, who’s as good a planner and coach as you’ll find, took six seasons of trial and error to get back to the title game with Seattle. Truth is that chasing coaches with Super Bowl pedigrees guarantees nothing. The longer you do it, the more expensive, and dangerous, it gets.

It seems the Redskins need to get away from that Nancy-boy style of football, stop being girlie men, become real ball players,
that would be a first for ball team in this area.

More Fassel
I continue to hear from multiple league sources that Jim Fassel was the person interviewing with the Redskins, and that he returned to Arizona without a contract. According to league sources, Fassel was told the team would make a decision shortly, perhaps in a day or two. Some NFL execs believe this was Fassel's second interview with Snyder - that he was the first unnamed interviewee the day after Jim Schwartz - but I can not get that confirmed as Snyder/Cerrato operate under their code of silence.
As I've said before, I spoke to Fassel the day after that first mystery candidate interviewed and he told me flat out that he had not been contacted by the Redskins (but honesty is not a hallmark of this process, and given the code of silence he would not be the first person to spread false information if that turns out to be the case). Fassel has not returned calls lately and his representatives have said they knew of no meetings between him and the Redskins but were trying to speak with Jim to verify the authenticity of what I am hearing. Snyder's flak as a rule does not grasp the concept of returning calls.)
Fassel, who has experience mentoring young quarterbacks - with great success in that regard early in his career and not so much lately - could become a part of the offensive staff as well. He was rejected for the offensive coordinator job in Kansas City a few weeks back, and has not received too many sniffs for head coaching gigs since then. I have heard repeatedly this offseason that Snyder and Cerrato have been bashing Al Saunders, unhappy with the development of the offense under him and very concerned they have the right people in place to mold young QB Jason Campbell. So it would not surprise me at all if Fassel is hired - if he is hired at all - that it's on the offensive side of the ball.
But the fact also remains that Snyder had a strong feeling for Fassel during 2004 interviews, before Joe Gibbs resurfaced. He could love this guy and think he is the perfect figure to lead the organization into the future. At the end of the day it's all up to Snyder. He can prolong the process as long as he likes and he can choose the coach he desires.
The Redskins staff, most of which is in Mobile for the Senior Bowl, have not received any word from ownership or management about the process for two weeks now and the coaches and scouts do not know if it will be Gregg Williams or an outside candidate. None of the other people to interview and not withdraw from the search - Williams, Schwartz, Meeks - have heard anything from the brass since their meetings, according to league sources.

also it looks like Spags will not be back with the Giants next year. The Falcons are interested enough that even after saying that finding a head coach was "priority one" they're going to wait until after the Super Bowl so they can interview him.

I personally think it would be a bad move especially if we loose Williams as Def Coordinator. Players like London Fletcher lasts years field general's impact will be marginalized by a new scheme. As much has I hate the cover 2 system the Skins D played great early and late last year.
Saunders has not produced but Fassel did not do well in Baltimore after his time in NY. I would not mind if Fassel came in but I would not want to loose Williams as a result.

The Washington Redskins are expected to name Jim Fassel their new head coach and Jim Zorn has emerged as the top choice to be their new offensive coordinator, sources said this afternoon, but no deals have been finalized.
The hang-up is that the Redskins also want to name Rex Ryan as the team's new defensive coordinator, sources said. Ryan has been the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens for the past three seasons. But the Redskins have been stymied in their attempts to hire him because the Ravens still retain contractual rights that allow them to block Ryan from taking another defensive coordinator job.
The sides may reach an agreement, but Ravens ownership badly wants to keep Ryan, who is well-liked by Ravens players. Fassel and Ryan spoke as recently as last night, sources said, and Ryan interviewed with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder recently, according to sources.
The Redskins still have Gregg Williams under contract as their defensive coordinator and interviewed him four times for the head coaching job replacing Joe Gibbs.
Zorn, the Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach, interviewed for the offensive coordinator job today. He is set to depart from Dulles Airport at about 5:40 p.m. and would replace Al Saunders.
The moves appear to contradict statements Snyder made at the news conference announcing Gibbs's departure two weeks ago. Then, Snyder stressed his desire to maintain continuity and praised Gibbs for stabilizing a franchise that had gone through four head coaches in the four seasons before he arrived.
Now, naming two new coordinators and a new head coach would result in a complete overhaul of the team.

Continuity? This means that the team is going to get blown up. I don't mind Rex Ryan because GW had to go since he is not the HC.
Jim Zorn?????

It is pure speculation but I could see Williams saying I need a GM. Synder not wanting to do that and Williams saying that I can't get it done with you and Cerrato picking the players.
He says if you don't name me head coach I don't want to be here. I think Saunders might have been on the chopping block even if GW was named head coach. Williams did not agree with some of he play calling last year.
I just don't understand it. Overnight we have diminished the value of so many people in our system. We will set back Campbell by putting in yet another offensive. It makes no sense. GW should have been given a year to see what he could do before you blow it up.
