Does anyone have any information on Somerset? I bought a Premier membership there and played there almost every weekend from November last year until about a month ago. About a month ago I went to play at Meadows with some friends and the starter tells me that Somerset was closing that day. I laughed it off as friendly competition, but it was true, I called out to Somerset and got a voicemail recording saying they were closed. I sent an email to the Pro (Bart Wolfe) and he told me that they were working out some problems/details with the bank and they would let the members know what happened so they could prorate the membership fees back to us if they "closed" officially. That was the first week of April and still have heard nothing...still nobody answering the phone there either. Does anyone have any information?

I live in Wilderness Shores. I heard that they closed b.c they were bought out and they are going to use the land to build houses.

They have not been purchased...the bank is holding the note on the previous golf course management company. The land is not zoned for development, and Orange County wouldn't let that happen.
There are people waiting for the bank to release the land to bid to bring it out of foreclosure...The owner of meadows farms is one of the leading folks expressing interest.
My GOD the class-action suit that would be brought by homeowners in Somerset against Beazer Homes, after having advertised "golf course resort community living" and raped so many buyers on home costs as a result...and then to just build home on the course - lol...
Anywho - wrong zoning...the land is zoned for a golf course and a resort hotel adjacent to the property.

BTW Cappin...I wouldn't expect to see ANY money!!
But they are currently mowing the greens and trying to stay on top of the fairways for perspective investors in the course (which are MANY)...so, you can come out and walk the course anytime you like!

I finally received a response...this is what I was told:
"There should be a resolution soon. There are pending lawsuits between the Somerset Education Foundation and Somerset LLC, the owner of the land. Once these issues are resolved the golf course will re-open and all 2006-2007 members will receive any membership months or refunds due to them. The golf course is continuing to be maintained during the closure."
Take it for what it is....a response.

This place has been closed for three months now. It is being mowed, but who owns it?

Peter jerroway and he doesn't have the money to keep it open from what we have heard. New rumor is June 1st is opening and they aren't mowing the whole course.

I asked a guy on a cart this weekend and he said they are trying for July.
The bank needs to foreclose on that owner and sell it cheap to someone who knows how to manage a golf course.

I drove through the neighborhood the other day and the golf course hasn't been touched in weeks. It is really looking in rough shape.

It went to auction 2 weeks ago and has a "new" owner - rumor has it that the same person is on the board of the company that now owns it. They are not planning to reopen it and are using it for investment property until they can sell it.

My name is Scott Brooks, the general contractor for Somerset Golf Course. I am employed by Down City Capital Partners out of Rhode Island to restore the golf course and bring it back to playing condition. The hope is to have it open by Spring of 2009. We are working extremely hard to achieve this goal. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach me at brooksffd@hotmail.com. Thanks

We had to stop work on the course due to lack of funds and hope to get back to work soon. The owners are trying to sell the course to someone who really wants to run a golf course. My crew is working to maintain what we have.

Orange County organized a SOMERSET COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY in 2001 to support the golf course as well a hotel etc. Where did they go? Check the Orange records on this Authority, Land Record 010009560. Members of the committee were Rick Wallace, Harry Mason, Richard Harrington, J.P Tucker III and Ann Williams.

I was over there today and some of the fairways look good while others look like crap. Downcity Partners still own the course and they paid $2,000,000 on 01/15/09 for the course .
