Suitable for Kids?
      #452140 - 08/03/04 12:06 PM (67.200.153.202)

I grew up watching The Stoogies, my grandson loves them as well. the other night he was watching one of the cd collections I have of them and laughing his butt off. We had company and one of the women stated that she'd never let her kids watch anything that violent if she had kids. I let it go but it's bothered me a little more then I realized. What do you think. Are they too violent for kids?

My granddaughter and I watch them all the time and she's never tried any of those stunts or is mean with her friends because of watching them. Heck Tree you and I grew up with the Stooges, Tom and Jerry, Popeye, The Coyote and Roadrunner, and I don't see us going around beating people up and hitting them with skillets or such.

Where did the idea that the violence that kids do came from shows like these?

I imagine some type of watchdog group, which in some instances is a good idea considering the type shows on today, especially that wife swapping new mommy crap.

I haven't seen any of those, but we don't watch much in the way of broadcast television. We get over 150 channels and end up watching more dvds and videos then anything.

We don't watch any of those "reality" (says who) shows. Mostly its either the History Channel, Discovery, TLC or the news chanels, with a touch of 3 or 4 network shows.

I don't think they are. I would sit there with my dad and watch them. I was like 5 or 6. We would laugh our butts off. Especially me cause I thought they were just so funny.

I used to watch them all the time! I never took it as violence. I always thought of it as funny. I guess if the mood of the show keeps it lighthearted. If you took the 3 stooges and dropped them in the middle of a super drama cop show or something, it would be considered violent.

Stooges are fine. Tom and Jerry is more violent and to a young kid there is not defference between the too. It's not cartoon violence verses TV violence, it's all TV violence. I would rather them watch Stooges than shows with too much potty humor. Underware and bodily nioses are funny to a kid, but not funny when your kid blows a butt whisper in your friend's direction.

Some poeple just don't give kids credit for thinking for themselves....Kids KNOW that the Stooges are set up - but it's still funny! Kids are also smart enough to know that cartoon aren't real!
