Legislative liason Eldon James is giving the BOS a summary of proposed VaCo (Va. Association of COunties) Region 7 Legisllative Platform for the 2012 General Assembly session.
Here are some of the issues that could be affected by proposed changes:
-repeal the COmmonwealth's $60 million clawback of aid to localities
-Comprehensive services Acts
-Line of Duty Act
-Transportation
-Chesapeake Bay Restoration

Discussion is ongoing about the Bowling Green Primary School renovation. The School board told the board they want the full funding, which is $12.5 million. That's $3.5 million more than the school board currently has to spend on the project.

It all boils down to will the BOS give the school board the extra $3.5 million. If they do, where will the money come from?
The BOS borrowed $3 million earlier this year to contribute to the renovation.
Funding this project added about 2 cents to the real-estate tax rate for the next 20 years, according to board Chairman Floyd Thomas.

The BOS does not have a decision tonight. Floyd THomas, board chair, said they need to solidify exactly what the cost of the Davis-Bacon Act (federal wage guideline-mandatory), and to have discussions with the project contractor A.D. Whitaker.
"He said the bos "needs to digest" this information.

14 people have spoken so far. 12 in favor of full funding for the BGP renovation and two in opposition of fireworks at the state fair due to injuries to animals.
