A little optimistic thinking:
Right now, Irene is a Cat 2 at 100 mph.
Right now, Irene is 148 miles from Myrtle Beach, SC
Right now, Wind speeds in Myrtle Beach are around 20 mph as reported by weather underground:

If it stays on track, and goes right down the center of the cone, it shouldn't get any closer to F'burg than when it is at the intersection of the border of Virigina and North Carolina where it intersects the Atlantic Ocean.
That distance is about 148 miles.
Irene will probably be Cat 1 by that time.
Soooo, if it stays out there like that, can we expect 20 mph winds? Do we have a right to hope???

And you better bookmark this, I don't get optimistic all that often outside of the FT.

Just keeps shifting east! I love it. I think we're in for a serious non-event here in F'burg. Its gonna get windy, but not enough not to go to the movies on Saturday night, y'know?
