Sorry...I wasn't able to slip past the wife last night...But I'm still interested. Doesn't Stringbender also live just two blocks away? I need to get my act together and set a date to meet up with you all when you do work on the martini equation...

Oh and I was looking for you, and just made one for myself.
and to sykosis, "And by the way...it is real, and it is spectacular".

And why wouldn't it be the "real" stuff?

eh, it might be. The real stuff is illegal in the states... lots of fake crap going around, but the real stuff aint easy to get in the states.

ehhhh it is not illegal in the United States, it is illegal to sell it in the Unites States but is not illegal to have and consume or purchase from England, France, Spain and most of Europe.
So, if you want it you can get it without any problem. The downside now is that the dollar isn't worth crap and it costs more then it is worth..... If you are going to purchase I would suggest La Fee, the Czech tends to be bitter....
so again,
it was good.

better look again, I have never been questioned when bringing it back into the states from overseas. I could not get in Ireland but when leaving from other European countries, I have always let customs know I had it.

I guess you haven't been reading the newspapers for the past eight months.
Or perhaps today's Washington Post?

Absinthe was legally approved for sale in the United States about a year ago. And yes, it's real.

Incorrect. Absinthe can be legally sold in the US. You'll likely see Kubler and Lucid on the shelves of Virginia ABC stores by summer.
If'n you don't want to wait, you could order a bottle from a nice place up in New York that will ship to you in three to four days, for free.
See http://www.DrinkUpNY.com/category_s/86.htm
Kubler is better, but I'm a bit biased. La Fee is crap. The Czech stuff is worse and not really absinthe in the first place.

Lucid is pretty good too. I enjoyed a "Death in the Afternoon" a few weeks ago using Lucid as a base.
Fill champagne flute with about 1/4 absinthe, top off with champagne (I was cheap and used Asti - but the sweetness of the Asti meant I didn't have to add any sugar to the absinthe).

Reviving an old thread, we recently visited the Raspberry Rhino, a martini bar in Sandestin Florida.
A creation called "Goose Gone Wild" caught my eye. It is a vodka martini with patron silver tequila and a blue cheese stuffed olive.
We successfully created it at home. We used Ciroc vodka and Don Julio blanco tequila. Any top shelf vodka and blanco tequila should do. Keep the tequila and vodka in the freezer with the freezer set at -5 degrees or colder. Use a gorgonzola stuffed olive from Wegmas olive bar.
Put the olive (on a pick) in the bottom of the martini glass. Add enough tequila to cover the olive then fill the glass with vodka. Use the olive to swirl the tequila and vodka together.
We're going to have one in about a half hour while the tritip roast is cooking on the grill
