American consumers are stupid.

Very possibly. But I'd like to point out that while CC and the vast majority of retailers staff their stores with inexperienced part time help (for the obvious reasons), they do however, employ extremely experienced and well payed lawyers, marketers, and accountants whose job it is to lure, decieve, and take advantage of, the stupid consumer.
